LearnLinks is a year-round after-school program for youth in grades K-8 living in Human Solutions’ affordable housing complexes. The program fosters greater academic achievement in public school, builds positive character traits and leadership skills, increases parent participation in the academic life of their children, and supports the overall stability of families. Key LearnLinks elements include: Homework Club: Extra help in difficult subject areas and time to complete homework in a caring, supportive learning environment. Community Leaders: Middle school youth chosen for this role learn positive social behaviors while they mentor their younger counterparts, providing tutoring and modeling responsible behavior. Service Learning: As Community Leaders gain confidence in their leadership and mentoring skills, service learning allows them to make a difference in their communities and experience the personal satisfaction of helping others.
LearnLinks is funded by The Portland Children’s Levy.
