Employment and Economic Development
In 2005, Human Solutions began developing employment programs for homeless and very low-income job seekers. The people we serve have significant barriers to living wage employment, including limited education and/or a need for basic skills training, underemployment/unemployment, homelessness, and English as a Second Language needs. We tailor our programs to meet the individual needs of participants. The programs include:
Living Solutions
This program helps homeless and very low-income people who want to work but are not well suited for traditional employment programs. Living Solutions offers job training and job placement assistance with the goal of placing participants in living wage jobs and increasing their incomes by as much as 300% per year. Services include basic education, skills training, and follow-up job coaching.
Peer Supported Workforce Development
This program helps low-income Eastern European immigrants and refugees enter the labor market in career path jobs that pay a living wage. Participants may have earned degrees or certifications in their native countries, but have difficulty finding employment in the U.S. due to limited English skills and other barriers. They make a three-year commitment to receiving services and dedicate themselves to strategic career advancement. Peer mentors offer support and advice. Last year, a full 100% of participants increased their household assets by 25% or more.
CommunityWorks
This program provides employment services and comprehensive social services to people who receive welfare but want to get off welfare. Our program helps them do so through Jobs Opportunities Basic Skills (JOBS) Plus, a subsidized work program. Participants are traditionally underserved job seekers from diverse backgrounds. They receive comprehensive employment training tailored to their individual needs, including job search assistance/placement and tuition assistance.
