YES We Can! STOP Federal LIHEAP Funding Cuts Your help is needed NOW. The current administration has proposed to cut $1.8 billion from the federal budget for LIHEAP (Low Income Heat and Energy Assistance Program) funding. This would be devastating for many people in our community, and in communities across the nation. Every year, struggling families turn to agencies like Human Solutions for energy assistance. LIHEAP's current federal budget of $5.1 billion doesn't provide enough to meet the needs of low-income and homeless families across the country. Human Solutions' clients depend on access to this federal energy assistance for survival. Each year Human Solutions provides more than 9,000 households in Multnomah County with emergency energy assistance, which is critical during the winter months. This is how YOU can help. There is a new proposal called, 'The Energy Assistance for American Families Act', which will restore current levels of LIHEAP funding and contribute an additional $2.5 billion, for a total of $7.6 billion. Please contact your Senators and Representatives TODAY and tell them why you think it is imperative that they support The Energy Assistance for American Families Act to restore and expand LIHEAP funding. Here are your Senators' and Representatives' addresses to contact. If you would like to call or email instead, please click on their name below to be sent to their webpage: Senator Ron Wyden Senator Jeff Merkley Representative David Wu Representative Earl Blumenauer
